Grandeur Privacy Policy
About this policy
Grandeur is an online browser game operated under the name Texemplar Interactive, an independent game project based in South Carolina, United States. In this policy, “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the operator of Grandeur. Texemplar Interactive is a project name and is not a separately incorporated company.
This policy explains how we handle information when you visit the game website, play as a guest, create an account, join multiplayer, or contact us. It describes information handled by the Game and the external services it uses. Questions and privacy requests can be sent to texemplarinteractive@gmail.com.
The Terms of Use set the rules for playing Grandeur. This Privacy Policy explains information practices and is not a request for blanket consent. Where a particular use requires consent, we must obtain that consent separately.
Information we handle
Accounts and authentication. If you create an account, you provide a username and password. We store an internal account identifier, your username, a salted password hash, account creation time, and authentication session records. The Game does not require an email address, real name, phone number, or postal address to register. Choose a username that does not reveal information you want to keep private. The current Game has no email-based password recovery.
Gameplay and progress. For signed-in players, we store progress linked to the account, including travel distances and walking-distance totals, Grandeur Points and Environmental Points, reward counters, vehicle and character colors, and records of collected virtual litter and completed viewpoints. Reward records include item or viewpoint identifiers, points, and claim times. These identifiers may reveal locations visited within the game world.
Locations and movement within the game. The Game processes your virtual position, direction, speed, vehicle or walking state, map areas, and route destinations to generate scenery, navigate, operate multiplayer, and validate progress and rewards. Some recent movement and trip state is temporarily cached on the server. These are locations selected or visited inside the Game. Grandeur does not request access to your device’s precise physical or GPS location. Your network IP address may nevertheless indicate an approximate real-world area.
Game-usage statistics. Grandeur collects first-party usage statistics from guest and signed-in visits. Each page load creates a fresh random page-session identifier held in that page's memory. Usage reports include this identifier, page-start and report information, and cumulative virtual distances for walking, bicycle, train and automobile modes. The game attempts reports when the page opens, approximately every 60 seconds while it remains open, and when the page is hidden or closed. These usage reports do not contain location coordinates or route histories.
For signed-in players, account-linked daily activity and login records allow distinct accounts to be counted over selected date ranges. Daily session, login and account-creation counts and distance totals use UTC days. Guest counts represent page sessions, not unique people. These statistics are estimates; short visits, closed pages, offline periods or failed reports can be missed.
Connection and security information. Our server and infrastructure providers receive network requests and related technical information. This can include IP addresses, browser or device information, request URLs, timestamps, connection identifiers, and error or security information. We use connection addresses and usernames to limit abusive requests. Technical information can identify or relate to a person; it is not necessarily anonymous.
Support communications. If you contact us, we receive your message and any contact details or other information included with it. Contacting us by email provides your email address even though account registration does not require one. Please do not send passwords or unnecessary sensitive information.
Information other players can see
The public leaderboard displays the usernames, ranks, and current Environmental Points of leading accounts. It can be viewed without logging in. Account creation does not provide a private leaderboard profile.
Multiplayer is optional. When you join, players in the room receive your account username or temporary guest name, connection identifier, and in-game position and direction. Nearby players receive additional movement and vehicle or character appearance information. The current Game does not include text chat, voice chat, or access to your microphone or camera.
Other people may copy or screenshot publicly displayed information. Leaving multiplayer stops further live sharing through that connection. It does not remove an account from the leaderboard or erase copies already made by others.
How we use information
- Provide the Game, authenticate accounts, save progress and preferences, and calculate and validate rewards.
- Deliver maps, terrain and navigation, show the public leaderboard, and connect players who choose multiplayer.
- Protect accounts and infrastructure, limit abuse and cheating, diagnose faults, and maintain service reliability.
- Measure page sessions, signed-in account activity and aggregate travel distances to understand usage and maintain or improve the Game.
- Handle support communications, comply with legal obligations, and protect legal rights and safety.
Where a law requires a lawful basis for processing, we rely on performance of a contract where processing is necessary to provide requested account and gameplay services under that contract; legitimate interests in operating a reliable, secure game, presenting fair public rankings, and preventing abuse, where those interests are not overridden by your rights; and legal obligations for processing required by law. We rely on consent only for a particular activity for which consent is required and obtained. You may contact us about these bases or object where applicable law gives you that right.
Cookies and browser storage
When you register or log in, Grandeur uses an authentication cookie to keep you signed in for up to 30 days unless you log out or the session ends earlier. The cookie has protections that limit access by page scripts and when it is sent. Passwords are not stored in browser localStorage. See Cookies and Browser Storage for the cookie name and other stored settings.
Browser localStorage remembers sound and volume, touch-control preferences, guest vehicle and character colors, bicycle gearing preferences, and whether the bicycle introduction has been shown. The introduction preference can be associated with your username on that browser. These settings have no automatic expiry set by the Game and remain until cleared by you or the browser. Your browser may also cache game files and map data.
In your browser, the usage-statistics identifier is kept in page memory, not in a cookie or localStorage, and a new page load creates a new identifier. Existing login cookies can associate usage reports with a signed-in account. This does not create a persistent guest browser identifier.
Agreement to the Terms is handled for the current page visit and is not saved in cookies or localStorage. Reloading the page resets this in-page agreement state. Account login sessions and other saved settings are separate.
You can clear or block cookies and site storage through your browser settings. This may sign you out, reset preferences, or prevent features from working. Clearing browser data does not delete your server account or saved progress. The Game uses the first-party usage statistics described above. It does not use advertising cookies or third-party audience-analytics services. We do not use browser Do Not Track signals to change these practices because we do not track players across unrelated websites for advertising. Any consent or other controls required by applicable law are separate from agreement to the Terms of Use.
Hosting and external services
Grandeur uses Render to host the public game and server infrastructure, and a server database to store accounts and progress. Hosting, database and network providers process information needed to deliver and secure the service. Their infrastructure may generate technical and security logs.
To build the game world, your browser directly requests vector map data from OpenFreeMap, minimap images from OpenStreetMap, and Mapzen or Tilezen terrain tiles hosted on Amazon Web Services. Those requests disclose your IP address and normal request information to the relevant provider, together with the requested map or terrain area. We do not include your Grandeur username, password, or account session token in those map requests.
Route requests go through our game server to an OSRM routing service. They include the virtual start and destination coordinates. WorldCover land-cover data hosted on Amazon Web Services is also requested through our server. Those upstream requests originate from our server rather than your browser; we do not forward account credentials with them.
Providers may process requests in countries where their infrastructure operates, including outside your country of residence, where privacy laws may differ. Where applicable law requires safeguards for an international transfer, those requirements apply in addition to this notice. A copy of this policy or continued play is not a waiver of those protections. Contact us for information about providers and applicable transfer arrangements.

Other disclosures and external links
We do not sell or rent players’ personal information, or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law or valid legal process, prevent fraud or abuse, or protect the rights and safety of players, the public, or the operator.
Grandeur is currently free to play and has no in-game payment checkout or paid virtual items. The Game may link to Discord, an optional Google Forms feedback page, and independent charity donation pages. If you follow those links, those services handle the information you provide under their own policies. Grandeur does not receive your card or banking details through those external donation pages.
Feedback is optional. The Google Forms feedback form opens outside Grandeur. Google and the form owner handle the information you choose to submit through it. Google may also receive technical information such as your IP address and browser details under its Privacy Policy. Check the form's notices before submitting, and do not include passwords, session tokens or unnecessary sensitive information.
How long information is kept
Account records and saved progress are kept for as long as the account exists to support continuing play, unless deletion is requested or the account is otherwise removed. The current Game has no automatic deletion of inactive accounts. Logging out or stopping play does not delete the account.
Login sessions are valid for up to 30 days, although related records are not necessarily erased at the moment a session expires. Live multiplayer information is removed from the room when your connection closes or times out. Recent movement and trip information is retained temporarily to validate and save progress or resume a trip; pending progress may be retained while a failed save is retried. Reward-claim records remain with saved account progress.
For usage statistics, temporary server records keep the random page-session identifier and the latest cumulative distance totals to avoid counting retries twice. These records are marked to expire 48 hours after the last accepted report. Expired records are removed when reports are processed or during periodic cleanup while the service runs; removal may be delayed during downtime or if cleanup cannot run. Account-linked daily activity and login records remain while the account exists and are removed when the account is deleted.
Daily aggregate session, login and account-creation counts and travel-distance totals have no preset expiry. These aggregate records do not contain account or page-session identifiers and can remain after account deletion.
Browser preferences remain as described in the storage section. Technical, security and support information is retained according to the purpose for which it is needed, such as investigating abuse, resolving an open request, or meeting a legal obligation. Infrastructure log and backup retention also depends on the relevant provider’s configuration and policies. Logging out or clearing browser storage does not by itself erase server-side logs or backup copies.
Your choices and privacy requests
You can play solo as a guest without creating an account and can choose whether to join multiplayer. Guest play still involves network requests and technical information, and does not provide the same account-based saving of progress. Signing out stops use of the current login session; it does not delete saved account data.
To request account deletion or ask about personal information, email texemplarinteractive@gmail.com. Include your username and describe the request. The current Game does not provide a self-service account-deletion button. We may need to verify that you control the account before disclosing or deleting its data. Never send your password. Because accounts have no registered email or recovery method, verification may be difficult if you have lost access.
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, restrict or object to certain processing, or withdraw consent for processing based on consent. Withdrawal does not affect earlier lawful processing. You may also complain to the privacy regulator where you live. Some information may need to be retained to meet legal obligations, address a dispute, or prevent abuse. Deleting an account removes its saved progress, its entry from the public leaderboard and its account-linked daily activity records. Aggregate statistics remain as described above.
Children and younger players
Grandeur is intended for players aged 13 and older and is not directed to children under 13. Children under 13 should not create an account or play the Game. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact texemplarinteractive@gmail.com so we can investigate and delete information where required. Additional protections or parental authorization may be required by laws that apply to younger players. Stating an age limit in this policy does not replace those requirements.
Security
We store account passwords as salted hashes and use authentication-cookie protections and request limits. No online service can guarantee complete security. Use a unique password and keep it confidential. If you suspect an account or security problem, contact us without sending your password.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy as our information practices change and will publish the revised policy with its effective date. We will provide additional notice or obtain consent where required by applicable law. Continued play does not replace consent required by law.
